Bitnet ABSTRACT This paper describes the results of the knowledge acquisition process which resulted in NIVTIS. NIVTIS is our system for the interpretation of non-invasive test data obtained from patients that may suffer from peripheral vascular disease in the legs. Ve briefly describe the tests that are regularly performed in a vascular laboratory. Then we shortly motivate our choice to use machine learning techniques in the knowledge acquisition process. The strategy for obtaining a reference interpretation of the non-invasive test data that are used during the learning phase is described.
