We’re on our way to victory and although we aren’t too optimistic now, we know in the end victory will be ours. There will be times when we won’t make progress very fast, but there will be times when are (sic) making progress. *** Many songs have been composed since the start of this war. I’ll name a few I particularly like. “Praise the Lord and Pass the Ammunition;” “This is the Army, Mr. ” There’s no reason for anyone to be hungry nowadays. There are plenty of jobs for everyone. Most of the school girls are working while school is out.

They were confidently sure of victory and in a civilized country. This picture, At the Front, was very different from another war picture, We Are the Marines, which I saw. The latter concerned the South Pacific theatre mostly and the boys, our gallant Marines, weren’t so sure of victory. How could they be when America had lost every other major battle prior to that? Who but tough Yanks could stand to live for three weeks on two tablespoons of rice twice a day? We must admit it took courage, and a good leadership for them to take and hold that important base.
