We label it the drama of the ordinary, because it is unfolding and evolving every day and thus is not often seen or appreciated by individuals. It is veiled in ordinariness. As a result, clients may fail to understand its dynamic nature and the substantial impact it has throughout their lives. They may fail to understand that what they “do in their daily lives is core to career” (Young, Marshall, & Valach, 2007, p. 8). By using the broader concept of life career development with clients as an orientation for understanding their human growth and development—the human career—we propose to make the drama of career development the drama of the extraordinary.

Should first recognize and address the relative importance clients ascribe to various life roles rather than assuming that the work role constitutes the main focus of the client’s problems and concerns.
