Ausgangspunkt der Reflexion ist die Hypothese, dass ein enger Zusammenhang besteht zwischen der Weise, wie die natürliche Erkenntnis in der thematischen Untersuchung charakterisiert wird, und der paintings der Konzeption der philosophischen Erkenntnis und ihrer Methode. Um diesen Zusammenhang zu beleuchten, hat die Verfasserin in ihrer Untersuchung eine doppelte Perspektive eingenommen: Einerseits widmet sie sich eingehend Husserls thematischer Phänomenologie der Erkenntnis, indem sie die Entwicklung seiner phänomenologischen Erkenntnislehre von 1900 bis 1913/14 genau rekonstruiert. Andererseits verfolgt sie die Entfaltung der phänomenologischen Methode, indem sie sich nicht nur an Husserls methodischen Ausführungen, sondern vor allem an seiner operativen Anwendung der phänomenologischen Methode orientiert. Diese transversale Betrachtungsweise, in der die vorläufigen Ergebnisse der thematischen Phänomenologie mit ihrer stets nur provisorischen methodischen Gestalt in Verbindung gebracht werden, führt nicht nur zu einem tieferen Verständnis der Methode Husserls, sondern eröffnet zugleich eine neue Zugangsweise zu seiner thematischen Erkenntnisphänomenologie. Die Ursprünge der genetischen Phänomenologie können dieser Studie zufolge auf das Jahr 1908 zurückdatiert werden; damit lässt sich aber die transzendentale Wende der Phänomenologie als eine Folge der genetischen Umgestaltung der Phänomenologie betrachten.
